We do not know where this object is from. Anubis was a god of the dead and the guardian of the cemetery. He was also associated with embalming and mummification, and was often shown helping to mummify a body. He is usually shown with the head of a dog, probably a jackal. This link with jackals may have been to protect the bodies against being disturbed and eaten by jackals. This is an amulet in the form of the god Anubis. It is made from faience.
