This is the head from a statuette of the pharaoh Mentuhotep II.

This object is from Egypt but the exact location is unknown. Mentuhotep II was the king who reunited Egypt after the political unrest of the First Intermediate Period. His name means “Montu is Content”, Montu being a Theban god of war. Mentuhtep II was a great war leader, campaigning against the Libyans, the Bedouin in Sinai and the Nubians. He wears the nemes headdress, a striped cloth tied at the back into a pigtail. Pharaohs had many crowns and headdresses to wear for different occasions, but the nemes is the one that appears most often. This is the head from a statuette of the pharaoh Mentuhotep II. It is made from stone (granite) It is over 4,000 years old, dating to the 11th Dynasty in the reign of Mentuhotep II (2055-2004 BCE).
