This is a stone fragment with a name inscribed on one side.

It is from Dendara. Stone masons varied in their skills. This door drum from a tomb is a simple smoothed shape with hieroglyphs cut into the stone. Compare this with the fine and detailed carving of an offering of flowers and geese nearby. A translation of the text reads “The protection for Khnemi”. It probably sat over a doorway in the tomb of Khnemi, as a way of preserving his name for ever. This is a stone fragment with a name inscribed on one side. It is made from stone. It is about 4,000 years old, dating to the 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th or 11th Dynasty (2181-1985 BCE) in the First Intermediate or Middle Kingdom Period.
