This is a wide rimmed pot.
It is from Egypt but the exact location is unknown. This pot was probably made to hold cosmetics. The makers of kohl pots and other cosmetic jars did not always hollow out the inside of the pot, but simply drilled out a central core. The user would not want a large pot of kohl that would dry out quickly, but just a small amount for use each day. This is a wide rimmed pot. It is made from Egyptian alabaster. It is between 3,300 and 3,600 years old, dating to the 18th Dynasty (1550-1295 BCE) in the New Kingdom.
