This is a carved stone stela for a man called Meni.

It is from Dendera, in the mastaba of Meni. Meni was a high-ranking civil servant, Chief of the Estates of the pharaohs Pepy I and Merenra. The stela from his tomb shows him in Egyptian style, with a triangular kilt and a priest’s leopard skin. The hieroglyphs translate as ‘A royal offering to Osiris, may he be buried well in the goodly West. It is over 4,000 years old, dating to the 6th Dynasty (2345-2181 BCE) in the Old Kingdom.
