It is from Abydos, Grave D35. The heart amulet, ib, was placed on the chest of the mummy. It protected the physical heart, which the ancient Egyptians thought was the seat of the mind. It also ensured new life for the deceased in the next world. This is a stone heart amulet. It is made from stone. It is over 3,300 years old, dating to the 18th, 19th or 20th Dynasty (1550 – 1295 BCE) in the New Kingdom.
