This is a heart scarab amulet with an inscription from the Book of the Dead It is from Egypt but the exact location is unknown. It was feared that a heart might testify against its owner to condemn them at the judgement in the afterlife. Heart scarabs were often placed within the bandages to prevent this. This one is inscribed with Chapter 30b from the Book of the Dead: “My heart, my mother, do not stand up against me, do not witness against me, do not oppose me in the tribunal, do not incline against me in the presence of the keeper of the scales …” This is a heart scarab amulet with an inscription from the Book of the Dead.
