This is a shrine made to hold a mummified hawk.

It is from Saqqara. Horus was depicted as a hawk or as a man with the head of a hawk. He was god of the sky, the embodiment of divine kingship and protector of the reigning pharaoh. The Egyptians linked hawks with the god, and from the Late Period (from about 747 BCE onwards) the birds were mummified to make offerings to the god. Priests at the temples made the mummified offerings, and sold them to the people coming to pray to the god. Placing the mummified hawk in a shrine or coffin like this made a more elaborate offering, and perhaps reflects the status of the unknown donor. This is a shrine made to hold a mummified hawk.
