This is a shabti jar. There is a vertical band of yellow paint down one side for decoration.
It is from grave D35 at Abydos. Shabtis were often housed in a box covered with funerary scenes. At the cheaper end of the market, a clay jar such as this one was used during the 19th and 20th Dynasties. It would have had a lid in the shape of a dog’s head, representing either the god Anubis or Duamutef, one of the four Sons of Re. This is a shabti jar. There is a vertical band of yellow paint down one side for decoration. It is made from clay. It is about 3,100 years old, dating to the 20th Dynasty in the New Kingdom (1186-1069 BCE).
