This is a large decorated pot from Amarna.

It is from El-‘Amarna (Akhetaten). Large numbers of pots survive from ancient Egypt. This one is from the Amarna period, and is unusual for being painted. Most pots made in the Dynastic period, since about 5,000 years ago, were plain and functional. Perhaps this pot was not designed for use, as handling and washing might damage the decoration, but for decorative or ceremonial use. The potter probably painted the design in cobalt blue paint before the pot was fired. The decoration imitates floral garlands, which were placed around vessels. This is a large decorated pot from Amarna. It is made from clay. It is between 3,350 and 3,390 years old, dating to the 18th Dynasty (1370-1352 BCE) in the New Kingdom.
