This is a red burnished bowl with black interior.
It is from Grave X83, in Abydos. An Egyptian, probably a member of the dead person’s family, placed this bowl in a tomb. It might have held food or drink for the dead. Sometimes an empty bowl or jar represented food that would be available by magic to the dead. Some jars from tombs contained aromatic fats or expensive perfumes. This is a red burnished bowl with black interior. It is made from clay. It is over 5,000 years old, dating to the Predynastic Period (5500-3100 BCE).
