This is a chisel.

It is from Egypt but the exact location is unknown. Carpenters and cabinetmakers worked in groups and had a sophisticated array of tools. Axes and saws were used for cutting tree trunks into planks, adzes for shaping, planing and shaving, awls and bow drills for boring holes, chisels and wooden mallets for shaping and cutting grooves. Egypt did not have any large forests so they tended to import wood from eastern Africa and the Lebanon. This is a chisel. It is made from a copper alloy. It is between 3,800 and 4,000 years old, dating to the 12th Dynasty (1985-1795 BCE) in the New Kingdom.
