This is a dark red burnished jar.
It is from Grave B10, Ab’adiya (Hut-Sekhem, Diospolis Parva). An Egyptian, probably a member of the dead person’s family, placed this jar in a tomb. It could have been used as a storage jar for honey, wine or other foodstuffs. Some jars from tombs contained aromatic fats or expensive perfumes. This is a dark red burnished jar. It is made from clay. It is over 5,000 years old, dating to the Predynastic Period (5500-3100 BCE).
