This is a red polished dish.

It is from Egypt but the exact location is unknown. Archaeologists have excavated few house and kitchens, so it is not always clear which pots were used for cooking and which for serving food. This one is of a good quality, and may have been for serving food. In poor households, there was probably no difference between the pottery used to cook food and to eat it. This is a red polished dish. It is made from clay. It is over 4,000 years old, dating to the 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th Dynasty (2686-2181 BCE) in the Old Kingdom.
