This is a ‘stela’. It is from Abydos. On this stela, the dead man Nebi-nefer is shown standing before the hawk-head god Re-harakhty. Between them is an offering table, piled with the food that Nebi-nefer would want to eat in the Afterlife. The inscription reads: A royal offering to Osiris, Chief of the West, the Great God, Lord of Abydos … that he may give invocation offerings, bread, beer, beef, fowl, to Nebi-nefer, justified. This is a stela. It is made from limestone. It is at least 1,600 years old, dating to the Ptolemaic or Roman Period (about 332 BCE-CE 395).
