This is a large bowl.

It is from Grave A117 at El- ‘Amra. An Egyptian, probably a member of the dead person’s family, put this bowl in a tomb. It might have held an offering of food or drink for the Afterlife. On this bowl, the surface is pitted where organic material in the clay has burnt off during firing. It is not always clear whether the Egyptians bought pots especially for a burial, or whether they used old household pots. The pots often look very clean and unused. This is a large bowl. It is made from clay. It is over 5,000 years old, dating to the Predynastic Period (5500-3100 BCE).
