This is a child’s cartonnage mummy mask.

It is from Egypt but the exact location is unknown. Cartonnage masks helped with the protection of the deceased. The gold colour of the face linked the dead, a child in this case, with the sun-god and gave a promise of rebirth. This is a child’s cartonnage mummy mask. It is made from cartonnage. It is over 2,000 years old, dating to the Ptolemaic Dynasty (300- 100BCE) in the Ptolemaic Period.
