This is an amulet showing a cat with kittens.
It is from Egypt but the exact location is unknown. The cat was linked to the cat-headed goddess Bastet. She represented the protective aspects of the mother-goddess, and was the opposite of the aggressive lion-headed Sakhmet. Bastet was linked with fertility, so the ancient Egyptians believed that carrying an amulet of a cat would ensure the wearer had children. This is an amulet showing a cat with kittens.
