This is a mummified hawk.
This object is from Egypt but the exact location is unknown. As with cats and other sacred animals, hawks and falcons were mummified and given as offerings to the god Horus. The priests of the temples sold such bird mummies to the people coming to the temple to worship the god. Every so often, the bird mummies dedicated to the god were cleared out from the temple, and placed in a burial chamber nearby. Some burial chambers contain thousands of birds. This is a mummified hawk. It is made from a bird’s body wrapped in linen. We do not know how old this object is.
