This is a mirror.

It is from Harageh, a series of cemeteries in fields near el-Lahun. Metalworkers would have specialised in the type of work they did, whether smelting, casting, hammering, engraving, making tools or making jewellery. Within a workshop there would also be different grades, from master craftsman to youngest assistant. Here, the metalworker was working alongside a faience maker to produce a decorative object. When in use and kept highly polished, this copper plate would have been reflective enough to work as a mirror. This is a mirror. It is made from a copper alloy and faience. It is between 3800 and 4000 years old, dating to the 12th Dynasty (1985-1795 BCE) in the New Kingdom.
