A sphinx amulet.

It is from grave W38 at Hiw, Diospolis Parva. Amulets gave protection to the wearer. This one is in the shape of a sphinx, associated with the king and the sun-god. A sphinx amulet. It is carved from felspar. It is about 3,800 years old, dating to the 12th Dynasty the Middle Kingdom (about 1985-1795 BCE).
