This is a mummified baby crocodile.
It is from Egypt but the exact location is unknown. Sobek was the crocodile god. The Egyptians seemed to both respect and fear the power of the crocodile, and as the result of this, Sobek was seen as an ambivalent creature. From the Late period (from about 2,700 years ago), the Egyptians killed and mummified animals sacred to gods. The mummified animals were sold to worshippers coming to the temples, to give as an offering to the god. This is a mummified baby crocodile. It is made from a crocodile’s body wrapped in linen. We do not know how old this object is.
